Genesee Reading Series

Here's my blurb:

I will be one of the co-features at this month's Genesee Reading Series, along with a fabulous talent Lisa Middendorf, who was in my Senior Writing Seminar at Saint John Fisher - taught by the adorable (and admirable) MJ Iuppa.

Lisa has a georgeous voice that I still remember distinctly after all these years. She is direct yet intensely descriptive in her writing and brings you to the moment she is unfolding for you with a memorable grace and style - you should definitely check her out!

And me ... not sure what I'll be doing yet. I'm going to try to do at least one drum peice but I haven't decided past that whether to focus on more recent work or do a sprawling survey ... so it'll be a surprise! I love surprises!

Here's the W&B promo info:

Lisa Middendorf and Marie Starr

Lisa Marie Middendorf grew up on a dairy farm on the banks of the Susquehenna River. After high school, she moved to Rochester, N.Y., where she received her Bachelor's degree in Education. When Lisa finished college, she wandered around looking for a "real job". She stayed in the Bahamas for a while, then found herself in Northern New Jersey. She traveled to Denver and spent one year serving in AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps. After,AmeriCorps, Lisa taught sixth grade in the school where she once walked the halls. In 2003, her college friends convinced her to move back to Rochester, where she has now just completed her Master's in English.

Marie Starr is a local artist and writer who runs a small press (Serendipity Press). She is also the Assistant Editor for Haz Mat Literary Magazine and hosts an Open Mic at the Blue Dahlia in Canandaigua every Wednesday. Her artwork/photography has been on display at the Flatiron Café, where she is the curator of their art show, and has been used as cover and interior art for Haz Mat and Common Intuitions: the 2005 Women Celebrating Women Anthology.

Now in its 23rd year, the Genesee Reading Series presents writers from the greater Genesss Valley region reading in the Verb Café.

Hope to see you there!
